Volunteers are an essential part of Eastview's service delivery. Without their help, we could not provide the quality and quantity of services we do for the thousands of children, youth and newcomers we serve.
Eastview offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities in many different program areas:
Current & Ongoing Opportunities - Spring 2019
TUTORS: Volunteers tutors needed to help middle and high school youth keep up with maths, history, geography, English, French. Flexible times available.
Please note this is a great experience for those hoping to pursue a career in teaching, as well as all adults and senior high school students (tutoring elementary school children only).
FOOD BANK INTAKE (2 Positions):
Register all food bank participants during hours of operation and Communicate important messages/updates with food bank participants. Applicants should have the ability to maintain efficiency and order while registering food bank participants while showing care and empathy to all Food Bank program participants. (Tues & Thurs). Comfortable with a laptop computer is a requirement.
PRODUCE PICK UP (1 Position):
Drive Eastview Van (very manageable!) to Second Harvest or Daily Bread warehouses to pick up produce and deliver to Eastview. Volunteer must be able to drive Eastview van (Regular G Licence required) and lift boxes up to 20lbs (Tuesday AM and / or Friday)
MEAL PREP COOK & SERVICE COORDINATORS (1 Position): - Coordinate the preparation and service of meal service for Food Bank Users onTuesdays or Thursdays(30 - 40 ppl on any give day, one 3 hr shift per week). Food is pre-prepared, however experience in cooking, making salads, side dishes etc is an asset. All positions require sensitivity and require the ability to work with diverse ethnic, cultural, and social
MEAL SERVICE ASSISTANT should be comfortable helping heat, serve and clean up after meal service for Food Bank Users (40 - 60 on any give day, one 3 hr shift per week). Both positions require sensitivity and require the ability to work with diverse ethnic, cultural, and social groups.
GRAPHIC DESIGNER/S: We are seeking one or more Graphic Designers who are available on a project by project basis to design materials including our Annual Report, Flyers, Banners, Thank You Packages and other marketing materials. Experience is preferred, however we are open to new graduates looking to build up a portfolio of work - as this is a great opportunity for aspiring graphic designers to utilize their skills, add an extensive amount of work to their portfolio, and have their work promoted. This is also a good chance for designers to experience the atmosphere of a not-for-profit workplace that receives funding from the City of Toronto and United Way.
Read UP READING CLUB: Volunteers will be needed to read with young children on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 - 6:30p.m. Great experience for those hoping to pursue a career in teaching and those who enjoy working with children! (Note: June 21 - September 1, Read Up will be taking a well deserved break!)
GYMNASTICS INSTRUCTORS (2) - We are looking for people with high energy and ability to engage children aged 6-12 while teaching them some basic Gymnastic moves. Experience necessary. We would like to run the class one evening per week for 1 - 2 hours, on Thursdays. It would be great if the classes could run for about ten weeks.
DANCE INSTRUCTORS (2) - We are looking for someone with high energy and ability to engage teen girls while teaching them some basic Hip Hop Dance routines. Experience preferred but not a must - enthusiasm and desire to gain experience in teaching dance are the only essential requirements. We would like to run the class one evening per week for 1 - 2 hours, we are flexible on the length of class, and ideally it would be held on Tuesdays. It would be great if the classes could possibly culminate in the group learning a dance that could be presented at one of our Community Centre events.
MENTAL HEALTH WORKER (psychologist/social worker/addictions counsellor, etc..) to do a 12 week mental health workshop-materials provided(1) – Open on days and time. Please contact Laurette at 416 392 1750, ext 315 for more information.
COOKING INSTRUCTORS - We are looking for people with high energy and ability to engage young boys and girls while teaching them some basic healthy cooking! Experience preferred but not a must - enthusiasm and desire to gain experience in good healthy food are the only essential requirements. Bi-weekly evenings for youth and after school for children.

Eastview Fundraising Work Group seeks a new and expanded group of volunteers working together to improve Eastview's fundraising capacity. The amount of time you spend on this work group will range depending on what type of role you are interested in.
